Yukon Xl Not Shifting Into 3 and 5 Gear

I was driving my yukon at about 60mph when suddenly the RPMs jumped and the engine got really loud. I slowed downwards and could not get the truck to go beyond 2nd gear. It shifts simply fine into Reverse, 1st and 2nd, but so the RPMs bound when it is supposed to become to tertiary gear. I can get it to become into third gear if I button it pretty hard, simply not easily. checked the transmission fluid, and information technology was low. The dash pannel never told me it was depression on fluid and the thermostat for the transmission never showed it in a higher place normal range. The speedomoter has not worked for nigh a year now. It slowly went out and I but assumed it was the motor for the speedomoter, as this is a very common thing for GMC. The oil gauage works, simply it stuck in the wrong range. It goes from max to beyond the max line, but all the same fluxuates. The other gauges piece of work fine. I have obviously put more transmission fluid in it, just that didn't assist. I have washed some enquiry and some things advise the VSS, which I accept not tried. Tin anyone please help who may know why the truck is doing this.

Come up on, guys! This is supposed to be a HELPFUL forum! No disrespect to everyone but Come ON!!!! 
well the speed sensor some times tin crusade this trouble. It happens just like you said 1st 2nd ok push button for 3rd and it will get some times. thake it to a honest trans shop or the dealer and tell them you had this happen before and think it's the speed sensor. That manner it will put a bug in the techs ear to cheque bthe sensor so y'all don't buy a unneeded tranny.

Lamentable to hear almost what's going on with your Yukon, Monsolo. It's been a few days since y'all posted this. Have you made any progress with this business concern? Are you lot thinking well-nigh taking your vehicle to the dealer at all or treatment this on your own?

I promise all came out okay with the "possessed" transmission you described in your mail. Can you let me know how information technology was checked and fixed? Was information technology the Speed sensor?
I accept a 2003 GMC Yukon that I bought new and my soon-to-be-ex-wife drove the first vii years of our owning it, only I drive now. It has most 138K mi. on it and it has truly been the all-time vehicle I have always endemic, easily-down! Now that I just jinxed myself, I wanted to comment on the Transmission.
Lately, I've noticed that when I come to a stop at a red light or stop sign and non take my human foot off the brake pedal to curl a trivial bit while stopped, when i do take my foot off to press the accelerator and go, I hear the transmission bang into gear right when I lift my human foot off the restriction pedal. It's either downshifting into beginning of disengaging from whatever gear it was in at my cease. I guess this is a slight "slip" in the tranny! If, while I am waiting for the low-cal to turn green, I lift my pes off the brake pedal to slightly ringlet, I hear it and so and won't hear/feel it upon taking off. Anyone else relate to this?
My 04 is doing the same thing! Information technology was fine one morning time, then in the afternoon it started shifting a little funny . . .got the oil changed and filled up with gas then I could add some Lucas Oil and barely fabricated it up the mountain to get abode. After working it to get upward the last steep scrap I limped it home while it was telling me Manual HOT. Since then I haven't been able to get it to shift into third and I don't dare bulldoze it off the mount. I've put Lucas End Slip in it and that didn't help. I've already had the manual rebuilt one time every bit reverse was going out. That was about 3 years ago. I'm agape if I take information technology to a shop they're merely going to say it needs rebuilding. I merely tin't fathom the thought of rebuilding information technology twice in the same vehicle!! (And had to do the same in previous ane ugh!) Whatever word on what it is and how to set it without rebuilding???
