But add a new folder and name information technology Downloads. The Finder will put the special icon back on the folder later a restart, if it doesn't initially.

Another mode I call back is to only download something again, the binder will reappear. The only way to permanently delete the "Downloads" binder (that I've found) is through the Terminal.

Couldn't you just hook up your external hard drive and find the downloads folder and restore it from your external hard drive?

This did non work. Its not showing upwardly on there either...

If you deleted it from your drive, restore from your fill-in. If you only deleted it from the Finder sidebar and the dock, the solution is simple.

I would effort to
1)but create a new user
2)create a new "download" folder in your user dwelling house folder
iii)cmd+i both download folders and cmd+c later clicking on the piddling icon in the data widow of the newly created user's download folder and cmd+v after clicking on the little icon in the window of the new download folder in your user

...nor did information technology put any of my downloads in that folder :(

Oh, well that isn't going to happen. Any downloads in your folder are gone now unless you had that backed upwards.

This did not work. Its not showing up on there

Did y'all check the Trash can ? Folders deleted with Finder usually ends up there and unless you lot have emptied the Trash, you tin always drag it dorsum.

+i. Or if Downloads/ is the last deleted object, open ~ in Finder and ⌘ + Z.

Download Binder

Simply look up downloads in Spotlight (at the elevation correct of the screen) then elevate and drop the modest folder icon adjacent to where it says downloads onto your dock. I've tried this to get an applications binder in that location when there wasn't one and information technology works fine.

aforementioned story ... with a twist

I was tidying upward my macbook pro and tried to drag the downloads folder to my external hard drive ... poof! The downloads folder evaporated and it does non appear in Finder at present.

Except, the downloads icon still appears at the bottom of the screen along with all other icons. So, when I click on that icon then click on "321 More in Finder" a Finder window opens with ALL downloaded files in in that location ... only the downloads folder still does not appear in the left hand side of the Finder pane.

How do I get the Downloads folder with all contents dorsum to square i so??

I just want to delete the older files now that I have been able to copy and paste onto my external bulldoze.

TIA

Merely type download into Spotlight and then drag the small download binder on the left of where it says downloads (probable the top hitting) onto your dog. Job done!!!

Simply wait upward downloads in Spotlight (at the elevation right of the screen) and then drag and driblet the small folder icon next to where it says downloads onto your dock. I've tried this to become an applications binder there when in that location wasn't one and it works fine.

But wanted to thank you, I accidentally removed the downloads binder from my new Mac Mini and had no thought how to get it back, and what you said to do worked!

If you have deleted the Downloads folder from Finder-

-Open spotlight, search for Downloads folder and open. Once it has opened in Finder, click on file and select "Add to Sidebar"

Hope that helps!

The question in this thread was how to add it back to the Dock, not the sidebar. That question was answered most a year ago.

I literally just created an account to say this. I had the same problem, and the solution is as uncomplicated as opening Downloads in finder, then click and drag the little downloads bluish folder to the left of the give-and-take downloads onto your dock. haha you were all manner overthinking it.
